When it comes to academic appointments for graduate students that are eligible or qualified combinations of such appointments, in the majority of cases, the benefits cannot be separated from the sources of remuneration. These appointments include teaching assistantships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and teaching assistantships. These appointments consist of a variety of academic posts including teaching, research, and others. This is still the case even when the appointments consist of a competent combination of candidates.
If the student has many appointments as a GSI, GSR, AI-GS, Reader, or Tutor that add up to more than 25% of their time, they may be eligible for a price waiver (that is, meet the amount of qualifying hours of service for a term). The expenditure of waiving the fee would be split among all of the appointments in a way that is proportional to the percentage of appointments that are scheduled. It is vital that we recognize the reality that discrepancies in salary and compensation that are based on a person’s gender cannot be erased with one-time pay adjustments. This is an issue that has been brought to our attention for quite some time now. These elements include not just the PTR but also the start-up wage negotiation, the merit/merit-based compensation review, promotions, as well as retention in the marketplace, and remedies for anomalies. Moreover, the PTR is only one of these aspects.

The four pillars that make up a professor’s academic appointment are service, research, scholarly engagement, and teaching. The four aspects that make up an academic appointment for librarians are professional practice, scholarly activity, and service. Training could be a requirement for professional practice. The tremendous amount of work that is expected of members of UTFA, in addition to the many other obligations that they are obligated to fulfill, can make all three aspects of an academic appointment—research, teaching, and service—a challenge for them on a daily basis. Members of UTFA are also expected to fulfill their other responsibilities.
